Do not interrupt the installation process. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Support Downloads to update.
The Mac OS X Server v10.6.3 Combo Update overwrites the /etc/rc.server file. If you have previously made changes to this file, make a backup copy before updating. Any custom sysctl settings should be configured in /etc/sysctl.conf rather than /etc/rc.server. See man rc.server and the /etc/sysctl.conf.default file for details.
You may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications installed, or if you've modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
This update can be installed on non-startup volumes, but you should only do this if the current startup volume has already been updated to Mac OS X Server v10.6.3. The simplest way to avoid issues from an improper installation is to start up from the volume that you wish to update.
Installation There are three ways to update to Mac OS X Server version 10.6.3:
Use Software Update
Install from a standalone installer
Install on a remote server via Server Admin or the softwareupdate command-line utility
Software Update installation Software Update may have referred you to this article. Because some updates are prerequisites for others, you may need to use Software Update more than once to obtain all available updates.
Standalone installer If you want to download and manually install the update, an installer is available from Apple Support Downloads. This a useful option if you need to update multiple computers but only want to download the update once.
Remote installation If you need to install the update on a remote server, you can do so using the Server Admin application or the softwareupdate command-line tool.

Client Management
Mail and iCal accounts that are automatically created when a client joins a server can now be deleted in Mail and iCal without unbinding from the server. Similarly, automatic VPN configurations can be removed from the client without unbinding.

Software Update Service
Improves reliability of Software Update Service, fixing the issues described in this article.
Provides the ability to selectively copy and enable updates from Apple when there are updates with the same name for different Mac OS versions, such as Safari 4.0.4 for Leopard and Snow Leopard.
Software Update service can now connect to Apple's Software Update servers through a proxy server that does not require authentication. For more information, see this article.

System Image Utility
Fixes an issue that could generate the message 'Catalog file is too fragmented for restore' when creating a NetRestore image from a volume.
When using the Add Packages and Post-Install Scripts task, you can now specify the order of the added packages and scripts.
You can now create a NetRestore image that includes a package such as iTunes, which would previously prevent the new disk image from being unmounted during creation.
The Customize Package Selection workflow now works when the primary language is other than English.

Improves the ability to add Software Update packages and other installation packages to a NetInstall workflow (requires a source volume with Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later installed).
You can now Enable Automated Installation for a NetRestore image (requires a source volume with Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later installed).
Fixes an issue that could cause systems created from a NetInstall image to show an alert that 'the client computer already exists' when binding to an Open Directory server (requires a source volume with Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later installed). For details, see this article.
Fixes an issue with setting a custom system name using the Apply System Configuration Settings task (requires a source volume with Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later installed).
When you enable Automated Installation for a NetInstall image, clients can now successfully choose which volume to install on if the 'Volume: Selected by user' option is set (requires a source volume with Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later installed).
Web Service
Enables CGI scripts stored in the /Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables/ directory.
Web password reset and mail rules pages now work with Internet Explorer.
Web password reset uses port 8096 to avoid a conflict on port 8088 with the Software Update service.
Wiki Service
Adds Digest-MD5 authentication support for Active Directory users.
RSS feeds now include wiki updates.
You can now attach files that have symbols such as # & ?, high-ASCII characters, or 2-byte language characters in their name. 2-byte characters are used to represent Japanese, Chinese, and Korean characters. High-ASCII characters are 'extended ASCII' characters such as ü or é.
Improves moving and opening events on a wiki calendar from Internet Explorer.
Improves compatibility for Safari on iPad.
Workgroup Manager
Fixes an issue that could cause a user's primary shortname to be changed when adding or editing additional shortnames.
Xsan
Improves reliability of Fibre channel connections to an Xserve RAID.
Fixes an issue that could cause the size of certain Fibre channel LUNs to be reported inaccurately.
Additional improvements

Mac OS X Server v10.6.3 also includes all other improvements delivered in the client Mac OS X v10.6.3 Update.
In order to receive all the improvements listed above, some systems require the Mac OS X v10.6.3 Supplemental Update, which is available via Software Update.
